Family Problems

Introduction:

Family problems can arise in the most tightly knit families. At many times it could be a minor issue or misunderstanding which can lead to challenging, frustrating and painful interactions within family members.

At these times buried resentments could surface leading to blame, dramatic arguments leading to feelings of disappointment, being cheated and anger.

Signs and Symptoms:

Before small family problems take a larger form, it is always better to identify it at an earlier stage and nip it in the bud:

  • Less or no communication between family members (sharing your day's life)
  • People spend minimal time with family members - they either spend most of their time at work or with friends, or outside alone. 
  • No display of interest in the life of other family, extended family members
  • Constant tension whenever there is a conversation between family member
  • Display of criticism or disinterest in routine family activities

Causes:

There could be many reasons as to why and to what extent family problems could arise:

  • Ongoing financial issues
  • Chronic illness of a family member
  • Power play between a couple of family members
  • Need for control amongst family members
  • Lack of trust and respect among family members
